2026

The Golden Globe Race is a tribute to the very first non-stop solo circumnavigation in 1968, when nine sailors set off and only one reached the finish. The spirit of the race has remained the same ever since: it is not about technology or budgets, but about seamanship, courage, and the human spirit.
To honor that tradition, the rules are strict. I will sail without modern electronics – no GPS, no internet, no weather routing. Instead, I will navigate with a sextant, paper charts, and a compass, just as sailors did more than 50 years ago. My boat, a Rustler 36 named Lazy Otter, is simple, strong, and built for the oceans.
Right now, I am preparing both myself and the boat for the start in Les Sables-d’Olonne, France, on September 6th, 2026. Ahead lies a solo non-stop journey around the world, past the great southern capes, through storms, loneliness, and beauty—a test of patience, resilience, and heart.
